EASTON, Pa. – A few months after hosting a well-attended Bereaved Mother’s Day Celebration, a popular Lehigh Valley brewery is once again partnering with other local businesses to present a similar event – featuring complimentary food and non-alcoholic drinks – for bereaved fathers to pay tribute to their children.
The Blendery, Seven Sirens Brewing Co.’s location at the Simon Silk Mill in Easton, will host a bereaved fathers event, 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25.
The free event is for fathers who have experienced the loss of a child, and attendees are welcome to bring a guest should they not want to come alone.
The aim is for fathers to meet other fathers who have experienced this specific kind of loss and “to build a community around healing,” according to an event description.
Individuals are welcome to bring a photo of their child, share memories or just enjoy a free meal around other men who understand their grief.
The Aug. 25 event will follow the brewery’s May 5 Bereaved Mother’s Day Celebration, which attracted more than 250 guests.
The origins of that event occurred earlier in the spring, when Seven Sirens owners Jordan Serulneck and Josh Divers were approached by a mother looking to host an event at The Blendery.
After learning that the event is for bereaved mothers to gather and memorialize their children, the partners decided to donate the space.
The organizing mother, Kathy Ann Noonan, originally intended to cook for a small group of women.
However, as the event grew to include more attendees, Serulneck and Divers decided to link up with one of their catering partners, Phillipsburg’s La Bella Via Italian restaurant, which donated freshly made food such as rolls, chicken and sides.
“We were amazed with the turnout and immediately started planning an event for the fathers,” a post on Seven Sirens’ Facebook page reads.
For the bereaved fathers event, La Bella Via will once again donate food, and Seven Sirens will partner with several other Lehigh Valley businesses for additional food and supplies.
Other local businesses making donations to the event include the Bethlehem location of Saladworks; Cheese Please Charcuterie, offering one-of-a-kind charcuterie boards with sweet and savory selections; The Mellow Kitchen, offering prepared meals, personal chef and catering services; Events by Balloonworks, offering on-site special event decorating; and Gift Box & Floral, offering premade giftbaskets, giftboxes and floral arrangements, along with house plants, outdoor plants and make-your-own flower arrangements.
“It’s our way of using our industry relationships to help the community around us,” the social media announcement continues.
The bereaved mothers event was originally planned for around 12 women and grew to more than 250 attendees.
Serulneck and Divers are proud of how they handled the May event given the timeline and circ*mstances, but to be even more prepared for this upcoming event, they are asking fathers to preregister online to make sure they have enough food for everyone.
“We had an overwhelming response for our first event so to ensure we have enough space and food for everyone, pre-registration is required,” the event description continues. “While we don’t shareyour specific loss, we do understand duty to our community.”
Serulneck, a Navy veteran, and Divers, a seasoned brewmaster, debuted Seven Sirens Brewing Co. in 2020 in an 8,500-square-foot space at 327 Broadway on Bethlehem’s South Side.
The brewery, occupying the renovated ground floor of a former parking deck, has a tagline of “beer that sings to you” and features over two dozen taps.
Customers can enjoy a variety of brews, including dark beers such as Portside Brown (nut brown ale) and Cormac’s Revenge (oatmeal stout), light beers such as Orange Skies (Belgian witbier) and Lighthouse (American light lager), sour/fruity beers such as Strawberry Velvet (strawberry blonde) and The Squeeze (blood orange sour) and hoppy selections such as Base Camp (West Coast IPA) and James Henry Trotter (peach vanilla milkshake IPA) and malty beers such as Basic B (pumpkin ale) and Ol’ Glory (American amber/red lager).
The brewery also offers a variety of hard ciders, seltzers, slushies and seasonal co*cktails.
Seven Sirens opened its Blendery location, featuring indoor and outdoor space, in 2022 at 1247 Simon Blvd. N108 in Easton.
At the Simon Silk Mill, it operates close to other craft beverage producers, including County Seat Spirits, Easton Wine Project and Böser Geist Brewing Co.
