Rockies' Elias Diaz: Likely out for Minnesota series

    1h ago

Rockies manager Bud Black suggested after Monday's 5-0 loss to the Twins that Diaz will likely miss the remaining two games of the series in Minnesota due to a strained left calf, MLB.com reports. "It's right in the belly of the calf, so we'll see," Black said of the injury Diaz suffered in the first inning of Monday's game. "He's been feeling it for a couple weeks. He's been able to manage it and [in Monday's game], I think just on that particular ground ball, out of the box, it got him. We'll see in a couple of days. Keith [Duggar, the team's head athletic trainer] wants to treat it for a day or two and see where we are."

Diaz was lifted from the game in the bottom of the first after he strained his calf while running out a groundball in his first at-bat of the night in the top of the frame. Jacob Stallings came on to replace Diaz and will presumably start behind the plate for the final two games in Minnesota, and Stallings could be headed for an extended run as the Rockies' No. 1 catcher if Diaz requires a stint on the injured list. Diaz will presumably be re-examined Thursday when the Rockies return to Colorado before the team makes a decision on his availability heading into this weekend's series versus the Pirates. Diaz has been one of the few bright spots for the Rockies this season, batting .303 with five home runs, 28 RBI and 20 runs in 55 games.

Kirk went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Brewers.

The backstop took Colin Rea deep in the third inning, ending a power drought for Kirk that stretched back to April 28. While his .612 OPS and two homers on the season are a disappointment, the 25-year-old may be coming around at the plate -- over his last 10 games, Kirk's batting .308 (8-for-26).

Orioles' James McCann: Homer, steal in win

    10h ago

McCann went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk, a stolen base and two total runs scored in Monday's 5-2 win over the Rays.

This was McCann's third multi-hit effort of the season and his first since April 16. He also picked up his second homer and first steal of the campaign. McCann's playing time remains limited while backing up star catcher Adley Rutschman, who received a day off Monday. McCann is at a .211/.224/.326 slash line through 98 plate appearances.

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Slugs walk-off grand slam

    11h ago

Raleigh went 1-for-5 with a grand slam in an 8-4 win against the White Sox on Monday.

Raleigh went hitless with a pair of strikeouts over his first four at-bats but finished the game with a bang, belting a grand slam with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Mariners a walk-off win. It was the second straight day that the backstop produced a clutch hit -- he knocked a two-run single in the 10th frame Sunday to help Seattle to victory. Raleigh is barely over the Mendoza line with a .206 batting average on the season, but he's tied for second among MLB catchers with 12 homers and is tied for fourth with 39 RBI.

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Nursing calf issue

    15h ago

Diaz left Monday's game against the Twins due to a left calf injury, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.

Diaz is likely undergoing additional testing to uncover the extent of the calf injury. Jacob Stallings and Hunter Goodman would share time behind the plate if it's determined Diaz requires an extended absence, though it's still too early to know if he'll be placed on the injured list.

Astros' Yainer Diaz: Dealing with soreness

    16h ago

Diaz isn't starting Monday's game against the Giants due to soreness and limited range of motion in his right index finger, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Diaz took a foul tip to his right hand during Sunday's game against the Angels, and he didn't feel healthy enough to start Monday's series opener. However, manager Joe Espada noted Diaz will be available to pinch hit if needed. Victor Caratini draws the start behind the dish and will bat ninth in Diaz's place.
